Tourism Minister H. K. Patil Launches Initiative to Make ‘Temple of Democracy’ Accessible to All

Bengaluru: In a first in Karnataka's history, the public can now step inside and explore the grandeur of the Vidhana Soudha, thanks to a new guided tour initiative launched by the Departments of Tourism and Administrative Reforms.

At the inauguration event today, Tourism Minister H. K. Patil called Vidhana Soudha the “most beautiful building in the world” and a “temple of democracy.” He emphasised that the purpose of the tour is not mere sightseeing but a civic experience to inspire and educate.

“This isn’t entertainment. Visitors should gain knowledge, fuel their aspirations, and build a stronger democracy,” he stated.

The guided tours are expected to benefit students, civil service aspirants, architecture enthusiasts, and the general public, giving them a rare look inside the power corridors of Karnataka’s democracy.

Speaker Basavaraj Horatti, who also spoke at the event, shared a nostalgic anecdote from his student days.

“We once came to see the Vidhana Soudha, but were denied a pass. They asked, ‘Who is Basavaraj Horatti?’ We had no ID back then. Only through someone else could we get in,” he recalled.

This initiative marks a progressive step towards transparent governance, and aims to bridge the gap between citizens and lawmakers.

Tour Highlights:

  • Guided walkthroughs inside Vidhana Soudha

  • Insight into legislative processes

  • History and architectural features of the building

  • Available to all, with prior booking and ID verification
