Protest at Bengaluru’s KSR Station Sees Surge in Participation; AIDSO Vows to Protect Right to Education for Marginalised Students

Bengaluru: The All India Democratic Students' Organisation (AIDSO) Bengaluru District Committee held a massive signature campaign on Sunday outside the KSR Railway Station, opposing the state government’s plan to shut down 6,200 government schools under the controversial "Hub and Spoke" model.

These schools, each with fewer than 10 students, are being considered for closure by the state government — a move AIDSO calls "anti-poor" and "anti-education". The protest campaign is part of a larger statewide movement aiming to collect 50 lakh signatures across Karnataka.

The event in Bengaluru witnessed overwhelming public response, with many commuters and local citizens not only signing but also bringing others to join the cause. People from various districts and linguistic backgrounds came together to support free and equitable education.

"This is not just about numbers. It’s about the right to education for children from marginalized, rural, and economically weak backgrounds, especially girl students," said AIDSO District President Apoorva C.M.

AIDSO has strongly urged the government to reconsider its decision, and instead focus on strengthening these schools with better infrastructure, more teachers, and adequate funding, ensuring educational equity for all.

Also present at the campaign were District Secretary Kalyan Kumar V, several AIDSO activists, and student volunteers from multiple colleges, all uniting under one voice — #SaveGovtSchools.
