Fresh Violence Rocks Bantwal Taluk as Bike-Borne Assailants Hack Rahim to Death, One Injured
Bantwal: In yet another horrifying episode of bloodshed in coastal Karnataka, a man named Rahim, a pickup driver by profession, was hacked to death in broad daylight in Bantwal taluk, sparking renewed tension in the region.
This gruesome murder, which comes close on the heels of the killing of Hindu organisation worker Suhas Shetty, has thrown the region into turmoil.
Rahim Slashed While Unloading Sand
The incident occurred in Irakodi near Kuriala, under Bantwal taluk jurisdiction, where Rahim, a resident of Kolathamajalu, was unloading sand in front of a residence along with another man named Hanif.
Suddenly, two masked assailants on a bike arrived at the scene, brandishing lethal weapons.
“They slashed Rahim multiple times before he could react. The attackers showed no mercy,” said an eyewitness who fled the scene in panic.
Rahim died on the spot, drenched in blood. Hanif, who was with him, was also attacked and seriously injured. He has been admitted to a local hospital and is currently undergoing treatment.
Police on High Alert, Area Tense
Bantwal Rural Police quickly reached the spot and cordoned off the area. Forensic teams and senior officials also visited the scene to inspect the situation. A case has been registered, and an intense manhunt is underway to track down the attackers, who fled on the same motorbike.
“The murder appears to be premeditated. We are investigating all angles, including possible links to previous incidents,” said a senior police officer.
The brutal nature of the murder has sparked fear, unrest, and sharp reactions on social media, with local leaders urging restraint and justice.
Aftermath of Suhas Shetty’s Murder?
The murder of Rahim occurred just days after the shocking killing of Suhas Shetty, a Hindu organisation activist, in the same region. Though police have yet to confirm any direct link between the two incidents, communal tensions have been simmering, raising concerns of retaliatory violence. Security has been stepped up in sensitive areas, and local leaders have appealed for peace.
Is Mangaluru Heading Toward a Spiral of Violence?
The twin murders have raised serious questions about law and order in the coastal belt. With both killings executed in a highly planned and public manner, the region seems to be sliding into a cycle of tit-for-tat killings, echoing past episodes of communal unrest.
Police are working overtime to prevent escalation.
