Floral Tributes Paid on Nehru’s Death Anniversary; CM Also Issues Advisory on Rising Covid Cases
Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today paid rich tributes to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, hailing him as the architect of modern India and the foundation behind the country's economic and agricultural self-reliance.
The Chief Minister was addressing the media after offering floral tributes to Nehru’s statue and portrait near the East Gate of Vidhana Soudha on the occasion of the former Prime Minister’s death anniversary.
"Builder of Modern India"
“Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation for a strong, self-reliant, and modern India. He made sincere efforts to eradicate poverty, promoted a mixed economy, created job opportunities, and laid the groundwork for the Green Revolution,” Siddaramaiah said.
Highlighting Nehru’s 17-year tenure as Prime Minister, the CM noted:
“Nehru built dams, industries, educational institutions, and strengthened the public sector. His contributions to the cooperative movement and decentralisation are remarkable.”
“If India is now the 5th largest economy in the world and self-sufficient in food, it is because of the visionary leadership of Pandit Nehru,” he added.
COVID Advisory: Elderly and Sick Urged to Wear Masks
Touching upon rising COVID-19 cases in the state, CM Siddaramaiah emphasised preparation and precaution.
“Covid cases have slightly increased from 65 to 80, but there is no severe strain. Still, we must be vigilant,” he said. He reiterated:
-
Children showing symptoms like a cold, cough or fever should not be sent to school
-
Elderly people and those with health conditions are advised to wear masks
-
Ventilators, oxygen supplies, and hospital wards should be kept ready
-
Vaccines should be stocked in advance
“Though the Centre has not issued instructions for airport screening, we will take precautionary steps if needed,” he clarified.
He added that mask-wearing has not been made mandatory for the general public, but caution is key to prevent the spread.
