Patriotic fervour rises in Hospet as college students and even Israeli tourists line up for tattoos honouring the Indian Army's strike against terrorism. Tattoo parlours witness a sudden boom
Hospet: A wave of patriotism has swept after the Indian Army's historic Operation Sindoor. This audacious mission delivered a befitting reply to Pakistan’s proxy war through terrorism. The bold military action not only garnered global applause but has now ignited a symbolic trend—Operation Sindoor tattoos.
Across the town, particularly among college students, the spirit of nationalism has taken the form of ink. Scores of youngsters are getting the words ‘Operation Sindoor’ permanently etched on their arms, chest, and shoulders. Surprisingly, the trend isn't limited to locals. Israeli tourists and other foreign nationals visiting Hospet and Hampi are joining the tattoo wave — marking a rare fusion of international admiration for Indian military might.
"Operation Sindoor showed the power of the Indian Army to the whole world. I wanted to join the army, but I couldn't get selected. Now it's time to stand with the country. Two days ago, I decided to get a permanent tattoo. I got it now," said Akash Nayak, a 17-year-old student with glistening eyes and a fresh tattoo on his arm.
Tattoo parlors across the city are reporting an unprecedented surge in demand. Artists say the pricing ranges from Rs. 600 to Rs. 1,500, depending on the size and detailing of the tattoo. While some opt for temporary tattoos, many are choosing permanent ones, citing deep emotional connection and respect for the armed forces.
"The color of the tattoo depends on the skin tone. Some want it in bold red to reflect the sindoor color, while others want a classic black. What’s heartwarming is that these tattoos aren't about fashion – they are about faith in the nation," said tattoo artist Ganesh N, whose studio has been buzzing with activity for the past week.
One of the tattoo seekers, Ravi from Hampi, echoed the national sentiment.
“As an Indian, I am proud of the Army. I felt a thrill when I got the sindoor tattoo. This tattoo is for India and will be permanent,” he said.
“When I explained the meaning of 'sindoor' to my Israeli friend, he was deeply moved and decided to get one too," Ravi added, flashing his inked arm with pride.
The Story Behind the Ink:
‘Sindoor’ — a sacred vermilion traditionally worn by Indian women, has taken on a whole new meaning post-operation. Operation Sindoor, which shook the enemy’s foundations, is now being seen as a symbol of India’s power, sacrifice, and unyielding spirit. The tattoo is not just a design — it's a mark of pride, a permanent salute, a bold message etched in skin.
“A tattoo lasts a lifetime. What better way to honor the soldiers who laid down their lives for us?”, said 22-year-old Riya Sharma, another student in line to get inked.
With the tattoo trend gaining momentum, Hospet’s tattoo parlors have become hubs of nationalistic expression. Many artists say they are now considering offering Operation Sindoor tattoos at discounted rates, just to be part of this historic moment.
