Duo accused of leaking Army movement details to Pakistan; arrested after intelligence tip-off in Malerkotla.

Chandigarh: In a significant breakthrough for national security, the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) announced the arrest of two individuals from Malerkotla on charges of espionage and links to a Pakistani official posted at the High Commission in New Delhi.

According to the DGP, action was taken based on reliable intelligence, leading to the arrest of the first suspect for leaking sensitive information regarding Indian Army movements. Subsequent interrogation led to the arrest of a second accused, both of whom were allegedly in direct contact with a Pakistani handler.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the duo passed confidential information and received payments through online transactions,” said the DGP.

Authorities have seized two mobile phones, and an FIR has been registered. Investigators are now tracing the financial and communication trails to uncover any wider espionage network operating in the region.

This development is being seen as a major blow to cross-border intelligence operations and comes amid heightened Indo-Pak tensions.

War on Drugs: May 31 Deadline for ‘Drug-Free Punjab’

In a related development, the DGP reiterated his commitment to the 'Drug-Free Punjab' campaign, stating that all police units must meet the May 31 deadline. Officers failing to implement the plan effectively or found negligent will face strict action, the DGP warned.

“No leniency will be shown if drugs are found post-deadline. Accountability is non-negotiable,” he asserted.
