Deadly Mishap Near Meghnagar in Madhya Pradesh; Victims Were Returning From a Wedding Function
Jhabua: Nine members of the same family were killed and two others seriously injured when a cement-laden trailer truck overturned and crushed a van early Wednesday morning in Madhya Pradesh’s Jhabua district.
The incident took place around 2:30 AM near the Sanjali railway crossing in Meghnagar tehsil, where the truck was navigating a temporary road over an under-construction railway overbridge (ROB).
According to Jhabua Superintendent of Police Padmavilochan Shukla,
“The truck lost control while passing through the temporary road and overturned onto the van carrying the victims, who were returning from a wedding function. All nine deceased belonged to the same family.”
Local residents and emergency services rushed to the site and initiated a rescue operation. The injured were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and their condition is being closely monitored.
Authorities are investigating the negligence in route management for heavy vehicles over incomplete infrastructure. Eyewitnesses claim there were no warning signs or barricades at the temporary diversion, raising serious questions about construction safety protocols.
The tragedy has cast a pall of gloom over the entire region. Madhya Pradesh's Chief Minister is expected to announce compensation soon for the victims’ families.
