Woman Blocks Bus After Alleged Negligence; Formal Complaint Registered, Internal Inquiry Underway
Bengaluru: In a recent incident that has raised fresh concerns about urban road safety and public transport accountability, a BMTC driver has been suspended following a minor collision between a city bus and a private vehicle near Cubbon Park on 23rd May 2025.
The incident occurred around 5:40 PM, when a BMTC bus (Registration No. KA57 F2046), operating on route JJ Nagar to Nagavara, was involved in a collision with the front portion of a car approaching from behind. The accident took place in front of the Cubbon Park Police Station, well within the jurisdiction of the Cubbon Park Traffic Police.
"The rear-right side of the bus brushed against the front of a car. The woman driver stepped out and blocked the bus, confronting the driver at the signal,"
said an eyewitness at the scene.
Woman Confronts Driver on Road
In a moment that caught the attention of bystanders, the woman allegedly stood directly in front of the bus, stopping its movement and demanding accountability from the driver. Eyewitnesses claim that the bus driver attempted to move the vehicle forward even as the woman stood in its path, intensifying the tension.
"It looked like the driver was trying to inch forward despite her standing there. She shouted for help and soon police intervened,"
said a commuter present at the spot.
A formal complaint was lodged by the woman at the Cubbon Park Traffic Police Station, citing negligence and dangerous driving.
BMTC Responds: Driver Suspended, Inquiry Initiated
In response to the incident and based on preliminary findings, the driver, identified as Prashanth (Token No. 12543) from Depot 17 – Chandra Layout, has been placed under immediate suspension pending a full departmental inquiry.
“BMTC reiterates its commitment to passenger and public safety,”
said a senior BMTC official.
“We are taking this incident seriously, and appropriate disciplinary actions will follow based on investigation results.”
The conductor on duty, Jayram, was also present during the shift which was operating under Schedule No. TR 4/9 (General Shift).
