‘No Objection to Pooja Practices, Concerns Will Be Addressed’, Says Deputy CM Amid Political and Legal Scrutiny

Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday confirmed that the state government will respond to the High Court notice regarding the Cauvery aarti being performed along the river. Addressing the media at his Sadashivanagar residence, he emphasised that the daily pooja tradition is not in violation of any law and the concerns raised by certain quarters will be looked into.

“No one objects to offering pooja. Certain sections have some concerns, and the government will address them. No one is seeking permission to offer pooja; it is a practice that has been going on every day.”
Shivakumar said, in response to a question on the court’s notice.

The Karnataka High Court had recently sought the government’s stand on the Cauvery aarti, following petitions that raised concerns over public expenditure, religious neutrality, and political motives behind the event.

'When Did Ashok Become an Astrologer?' – Shivakumar on Opposition Leader’s Claim

Responding to Leader of the Opposition R Ashok’s comment that a change of guard in Karnataka may occur in August, DK Shivakumar dismissed the speculation with a sharp retort:

“When did Ashok become an astrologer? If he has become one, do get me an appointment as I would like to consult him.”
He quipped.

Ashok's remark has stirred buzz in political circles amid reports of internal dissent within the ruling Congress and frequent visits by party observers.

Surjewala to Meet MLAs Personally During Visit

When asked about AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala’s scheduled visit to Bengaluru and whether he would meet legislators, Shivakumar confirmed:

“Yes, he will meet MLAs personally. He has already informed them. I will also send out messages to the MLAs regarding this.”

Surjewala’s visit comes amid reports that the Congress leadership is reviewing individual performances of MLAs and addressing concerns of factionalism within the state unit.
