MEA Calls Allegations ‘Baseless’; Urges Pakistan to Address Terrorism Within Its Own Borders
New Delhi/Islamabad: India has strongly rejected Pakistan’s allegations linking it to a deadly suicide bombing in the Waziristan region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, terming the charges "baseless and unfounded."
The response from India came after the Pakistan Army issued an official statement accusing India of involvement in the terrorist attack, which claimed the lives of at least 13 security personnel and injured 24 others on Saturday.
“We have seen the official statement of the Pakistan Army holding India responsible for the Waziristan attack. We reject this statement.”
said a spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Sunday.
India maintained that the allegations were an attempt to divert attention from Pakistan’s domestic failures in countering terrorism and extremist elements.
“Instead of making absurd accusations against India, Pakistan should focus on tackling terrorism that originates from within its own borders.”
The MEA further stated.
Tensions Continue Amid Cross-Border Allegations
The Waziristan suicide bombing, one of the deadliest attacks in the region in recent months, has intensified diplomatic tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. While Pakistan’s security establishment blames external interference, India has insisted that the root of the problem lies within Pakistan’s soil.
India’s stand is consistent with its long-standing policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism and non-interference in the internal matters of neighbouring countries.
“The world community is aware of Pakistan’s habit of externalising its internal issues, especially when it fails to act against home-grown terror outfits.”
commented a retired Indian diplomat.
The international community has yet to respond to these developments, but calls for restraint and responsible diplomacy are expected in the coming days.
