Film on Jesus Christ Shown to Children Sparks Controversy; Police Intervene to Prevent Escalation

Ambala (Haryana): A tense situation unfolded in Himmatpura locality of Ambala district after allegations of religious conversion surfaced during a summer camp being held at a community centre. The controversy erupted after local residents alleged that children were being shown a film on Jesus Christ, sparking fears of brainwashing and religious conversion.

The matter came to light when some children attending the camp told their parents that, along with games and activities, a film on Jesus Christ was screened at the venue. This led to suspicions of religious influence, prompting local groups, including members of the Bajrang Dal to gather at the site and raise objections.

“The camp was being run under the guise of regular activities, but attempts were being made to influence the children’s religious beliefs.”
alleged a local resident.

Police Called In Amid Heated Arguments

As the dispute escalated between two groups—one defending the summer camp and the other accusing the organisers of promoting conversion—the Padav police station team reached the spot to control the situation.

“There was an argument between both parties inside the church premises. Police reached the location and brought both groups to the police station to maintain peace,”
said Dharamvir, SHO of Padav Police Station.

He further added:

“At present, no formal complaint has been registered by either party. We will proceed based on available video evidence and findings of the investigation.”

Videos of the arguments that took place in the church premises have since circulated online, further fueling the controversy.

Accusations and Denials Continue

While members of Bajrang Dal accused the church pastor and organisers of the camp of engaging in religious conversion under the pretext of a children’s event, others have denied these allegations, claiming that the program was purely recreational.

Some parents and community members also expressed support for the centre, stating that children were only engaged in games and moral stories, and the film was part of general value-based learning.
