Ramban Cloudburst and Reasi Landslide Kill 10; Rescue Operations Intensified Amid Ongoing Heavy Rain Warnings
Three Dead, Two Missing in Ramban Cloudburst
Srinagar: At least three people were killed and two others went missing after a cloudburst triggered by heavy overnight rain struck Rajgarh tehsil of Ramban district on Wednesday morning. The cloudburst caused landslides and flash floods, damaging several houses and disrupting normal life in the area.
Authorities immediately launched rescue and search operations, with teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, local civic bodies, and residents working together to trace those trapped under debris. Officials confirmed that operations are still underway.
Seven of a Family Killed in Reasi Landslide
In a separate tragedy, a massive landslide in Badar village of Mahor area in Reasi district flattened a house, killing seven members of a family. Victims included a couple and their five children, who were buried under the rubble. Rescue teams are continuing efforts to clear debris and search for any survivors.
Heavy Rain Forecast by the Meteorological Department
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued a warning of heavy rain, cloudbursts, landslides, and flash floods across the Jammu region, including Ramban and adjoining districts. Officials stated that Ramban received heavy rainfall overnight, increasing the risk of natural calamities in the hilly terrain.
Series of Deadly Cloudbursts in J&K
Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed multiple cloudburst-related disasters this month:

On August 14, a cloudburst in the Chesoti village of Kishtwar district, en route to Mata Machail temple, killed 68 people. At least 32 remain missing.

On August 26, a landslide caused by a cloudburst on the way to the Vaishno Devi shrine killed 34 people, most of them pilgrims, and injured 23 others. Rescue operations are still ongoing.
Rescue Efforts Continue
Speaking on the Ramban tragedy, a senior official said:
“Rescue operations are being carried out on a war footing. SDRF and local teams are on the ground to ensure that the missing are traced.”
The death toll from recent cloudbursts in Jammu and Kashmir has crossed 100, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced disaster preparedness in the region.
