Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation Cracks Down on Fare Evaders and Seat Violators
Bengaluru: The checking staff of the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has ramped up efforts to curb ticketless traveling among passengers on buses operating in and around the city.
In January alone, BMTC staff conducted checks on 17,967 trips, resulting in the penalization of 3,696 ticketless passengers. A total penalty of Rs. 7,35,870 was collected from offenders, with additional cases booked against conductors for negligence in duty.
Furthermore, 477 male passengers found occupying seats reserved for women faced penalties totaling Rs. 47,700 in accordance with KMV Rules 94 and section 177 of the MV Act 1988.
Overall, during January 2024, a total of 4,173 passengers were penalized, and a penalty collection of Rs. 7,83,570 was recorded.
Passengers are strongly advised to purchase tickets or passes before boarding buses to avoid penalties and inconvenience. Compliance with ticketing regulations not only ensures a smoother travel experience but also enables BMTC to deliver improved services to all commuters. Additionally, passengers are urged to respect designated seats reserved exclusively for female travelers.
